I think Brian is biracial himself. However, I hate that we are just supposed to overlook color but our white counter parts don’t. We have to be so accepting but they seem to find people in their own race to marry. Why do so many of us feel like we “have to” date outside our race? We have to learn to communicate and appreciate each other better. I wish them the best but lets just be real about some things.

Name one professional white athlete who is MARRIED to a african American woman? I could not name one white man who was a professional athlete football, basketball, track, soccer, golf, badminton, baseball, swimming or archery who is MARRIED to a black woman.

Now think about this, we never see Robert DeNiro or Carlos Santana’s wives who are sisters. Never really even saw Roger Ebert’s wife, Chaz, and they have been together for almost 20 years. However, we constantly see Kobe’s wife, Tiger’s wife, Jordan’s white girlfriend but never saw Juanita pics or face too much in the news. The media won’t even show too many pics of Kid Rock’s son who is also by a black woman. Now just get serious that there are forces who don’t want sisters to be viewed desirable. If we don’t realize this we are fooling ourselves.

I think people are making comments because most people know that Black men with any kind of money,education, looks or special talents always seem to marry outside of the race.This also is true for us Black women.Im not saying people dont find us desirable, alot of people do but when it comes to the “TOP”cream of the crop Blacks you can be sure someone of another race group always has us.Looks,money or special talents,if you have any of these 3 alot of people are willing to overlook the color of our skin.Its sad but thats just the way it is, and Blacks act like nothing is wrong with this.This wont be the last instance where someone famous who is Black with money gets with someone non-black so i dont even get in an uproar about it.

C’mon sister, PREACH ON!! I’m glad to see that there is another sister who is not sleeping. You went deep with your second post as well and I appreciate the knowledge that you just shared with us. Hopefully it will educate some of the other people on here, if they are paying attention. You can’t even get some of them to read a book based on black history. I wish you could have went deeper but I think you hit the nail and drove it in for some of us. For the rest, they just don’t get it. Hell, even some of our own men voice how they are disgusted, fed up and/or detest black women. WE are the only race that I have ever heard of who are so vocal about how we don’t date black men or black women. I have never heard a white man, chinese man, hispanic man say they don’t date the women in their races.

Somehow sisters have been labeled as “gold diggers” but white women have mastered the art (I use this loosely) of gold digging. Yet let the term “ghetto” has been regulated to blacks but originated with the Jews, “gold digging” has been regulated to sisters like we are not loyal, supportive or appreciative and that is not true.

She’s a alright looking lady, as long as it’s real love it’s cool with me. Another who cares? Da Silva is actually a Portuguese surname(meaning “the Woods”) and many in South America(think Brazil) have married Blacks for centuries there.

Also, there are other factors that might come into play like the longevity of the relationship, this is the exception and not the rule, they might actually love each other(something all of us would like to find regardless) and motives.

I would also like to say that other races also have their gold diggers and people that are vocal about not dating within their race/ethnicity. I just think it’s more about who we are around when we heard such things and such aspects in regards to Black folks just get exposed or are giving more attention than it does with outher groups. So, this isn’t anything that is exclusive to Black folks either.

Oh and lastly, their kids would still be viewed in a realistic way as Black. We as a people should embrace them and look at our history in this country as a barometer of how we view that reality. If you look, you will get the overwhelming answer to that reality.

Brian White is a gorgeous man that found a beautiful woman. I dont understand why race has to be an issue in 2010, for real people? I’ve dated outside my race several times it was a great experience and adventure and I’d do it again. Love has no race(color). Seriously, I could have sworn he was gay. If you look at his photos on the web, he looks like he has sugar in his tank. Not only that, he never takes a normal picture with a woman, he’s always standing (practically) at arms length. In one sexy photo, the girl was photoshopped in. LOL. The only semi-normal pictures are with this girl, who’s been his best friend forever.

For the aforementioned reasons, I wasn’t really bothered by this news. I get others’ grievances, though. I am happily married, but I still tend to get that twinge when I see a brotha with someone outside of our race. And it’s for those reasons listed by nodoubt10 and C_Moore_78. There are too many sistas who have not, and will not find a mate because of the propaganda against BW. Not to mention, there are more BW than BM (we won’t even talk about eligible BW vs. BM)and BW tend to be more loyal when it comes to dating BM (although I see this is changing possibly due to the lack of prospects in our own race). Our entire culture is becoming discombobulated and dismantled through the destruction of our families, cultural pride, music, food (folks claiming soul food as “southern food” smh), and cultural identity. Young people don’t know how to cook, the music sucks (in order for one to find Hip Hop in it’s original form, you now have to look up “alternative hip hop” – what types!!), etc. People see these examples of high profile BM dating/marrying outside their race, and they think it’s insignificant. If a person is in love i don’t beleive that their skin colour should matter. but then again i am the child of an inter-racial marriage. i look mostly black so i am black. and speaking as ablack woman i do understand some the other black women feeling as to a brotha marring another race while they remain single. i am canadian so most of my friends are white and when we go out the black guys always pick up my friends and not me it’s kinda hurtful as i do consider myself beautiful but instead of getting jealous all the time i decided to do a survey and asked the black me that i meet why they perfer to date everyone else besides us black woman and they responds were the same. WE HAVE TO MUCH ATTITUDE. i don’t have attitude but i do have very high self confidence which i guess comes off in every thing i do. lately i have turned it down and so far i have gone out on 8 dates whith black men. so sometimes i think instead of pointing fingers at the guy we need to take a deep breathe and try something new and we won’t have this problem anymore ladies.

Our biggest critics are African American men. It’s always ok for them to date/marry outside the race. There is a perception that things are different or better when one marries someone of a different race or culture. I’m not saying this is the case with them, but there is a hunger for something different. Historically there has always been a need to keep black men and women separated. The are some powerful things that happen when you stick together. The Civil Rights Movement and Presidency is pretty powerful stuff. To understand American culture you have to read about the Civil War and then move up to the Civil Rights Movement. No one should hate on true love or questioned true love’s motives.

We all need love including black women. I received a call from an ex boyfriend that was going through a horrible divorce with his foreign wife. He wanted to spill his guts to me. He talked about her terribly, but I rejected his negative talk about her because he married her. He loved her enough to marry her. He made the ultimate committment with her, but I was good to talk to about his problems. They have two children. It’s not their fault. He expressed that part of the reason he married her was for her long shiny black hair, skin tone, and her sweet personality at the time. I am not making this up.

Two things that have great influence over us is the television and magazines. We are constantly being told that the black men are dumb, oversexed jocks. They are actors or athletes. Black women have big mouths,overweight and negative. We consume too much of it. If we tune them out, our relationships will probably be much better.

The grass is not greener on the otherside. This is the biggest joke ever told and believed. Do your research? When anyone marries for superficial reason it usually does not work out. You don’t have to convince someone you are worthy of being loved. You just have to be love, and you will attract it. Tune out the noise that is telling you what to think and how to think. Most times it’s pretty negative for your mental and physical well-being.

Finally, I also hope that people will really look closely at Martin Luther King Jr. words and actions. He wrote many speeches, articles and books. Please pick up something and read it for yourself. His dream is truly being lost on the miseducated.

I think there is a price to pay for everything we do in life. Dating and marrying someone out of your race comes with consequences and many people don’t think about that. I have seen many families broken up over this and mixed children struggling to find themselves. My belief is this,”Love is Blind”,but just because you can do something,doesn’t mean you should.

I have also notice that many who choose to participate in interracial relationships put there own race down. I researched this and saw the same things over and over again in various articles and books. Many black women stated that black men don’t want anything out of life and are not goal oriented and are physically and mentally abusive. I read that black men who date out of there race view black women as high maintenance with bad attitudes who put them down instead of helping to left them up.

I grew up in Detroit,MI on E.7 mile road and State Fair. I marveled at how the middle eastern people who came to this country bought all the convenience,grocery stores and gas stations in an all black community. I watched how they stuck together and supported one another building up there community. We all went to the same school and they would laugh at us stating,”the blacks rob,steal and kill each other.

I fantasized many a night about blacks uniting become one,restoring our communities,buying back our stores and gas stations and that has never occured. Instead we look out for ourselves not one another never seeing the big picture. Dr.King created the blue print and we never followed through.

I think as black people until we learn to like each other,we will never love each other. It has become more and more apparent.

I’m shocked to say the least. I don’t usually adhere to the “oh girl he’s gay” mindset that our community promotes about every black actor/media image that’s male. But in his case, having watched his mannerisms and so on in movies and shows, I just assumed he was same sex oriented.

While i emphathize w/the sisters who are bothered by this, I really do believe its time to move one and stop holding on to the notion that black men are or should date only us. They don’t and aren’t. To break down what this means, in the end, interracial marriage has proven to be an unconsccious act of rebellion and inner hatred. An elder once told me, that any black man that lays with a white woman, internally he has hatred for his mother from whence he cames because he’s not loving and in love with the ideaology of his mother. Any black woman that lays with a white man has hatred for herself, for the black woman came from the original man and the original man is in the image of the Creator. If we worked more on “ourselves” and “our” families, and stop trying to enslave one another to all be the same, then and only then can we truly progress as a people. Well I’m 52 and have never dated outside of my race. Yes, I have been asked but couldn’t do it. I think it is somewhat of a generational thing. I notice my 20 yr old and her generation and even most of my 30 yr old friends see nothing wrong with dating and partying with people outside of their race, it’s not a big deal at all to them.
