He underwent a RADical transformation of mind, body and spirit and came out the other side over 100 pounds thinner and much wiser. We recently had the chance to both sweat and chat together, so I wanted to let you in on his RAD life too beauties:
Robbie Ann Darby: So Keoni, as fitness professionals, it is often our personal stories and journeys that bring us to this career. What is your story?
Keoni Hudoba: I was overweight in college and in my early 20s. At my lowest point, I weighed in over 300 pounds. I moved to NYC to pursue my singing career. At one audition the director asked me to stay for the movement call. Within moments, I thought I was going to have a heart attack. The director pulled me aside and said that he loved my voice, but if I wanted to take this career seriously I was going to have to lose weight. Hearing that hit home.
I signed up for a gym membership and a personal trainer. This trainer sparked a new passion for me. I dedicated the next three years of my life to getting healthy. It’s a routine now. I wake up every morning at 6am to workout, and I can’t go a day without doing something physical. When I train clients at their lowest point and they say, “You don’t know what it’s like to be heavy,” I say, “I know exactly how it is.”
RAD: What advice would you give someone just starting their fitness/healthy lifestyle journey?
KH: I tell clients that they have to be ready to make a change and be fully invested in reaching their goals. Together we look for ways to make healthy routines enjoyable, starting with small changes. It’s important to find things that work for you…because those are the things that you’re going to stick to.
