Anika Noni-Rose, the actress who plays Disney’s first African-American princess in The Princess and the Frog, spoke out on the controversy surrounding the interracial pairing of the Black princess with a lighter skin-toned prince.

I love it , i from a very multicultural fam ,on both sides and now I can share this with my grandkids, whos both parents and stepmom is muticultural also ,they are childern of decendents of all shades:i have been waiitng and talking about this for yrs to fam and friends. we have afro-am which look most dominent in my brother , but i look more of creole/hispanic/ native. we haveafroam jamaican,/asian/dutch /portegesse native am /creole/irish. my creole/irish/afroam grandma look more native and had green eyes and red-brown wavy hair with a native american nose , my jamaican gma looked more african slanted eyes, high cheek bones ,full lips chocolate color pigmnent silky-fine long hair . so its about time since they cinderella with whitney huston and brandy who are both nutmeg /pecan tan/ nutmeg color.I am sure in time the prince will b darker pigmnetd just like the black ken doll.i know many families who have done the family tree and they will appreciate seeing a cartoon with people who look like there family too. pd

I think its a good thing that he is bring skinned besides all black people are not the same shade so she is dark and he is bright so both colors are covered that sounds like a winner to me. And to whoever said they dot want to see it because the guy is lighter is wrong period I mean us bright skinned people want to be recognized to it ain’t always about dark skin. Hell we haven’t had a Barbie our color since Theresa and she has another name it’s not even Barbie the African American Barbie is named Barbie so please be so kind as to let us have this one of you don’t mind.

it was probablly intentionally done. by making a prince black people would object to, thereby refusing to see the movie or by the toy products,resulting in little or no ticket sales. disney can then say black cartoons don’t sell and refuse to make any more because there is no market for them. everyone who has been to the parks or watched the cartoons can find evidence of blatent sterotyping of black people. giving us a black princess is dusney’s attempt to be politically correct. now when people say disney is rascist they can point to film and say no we aren’t. and when asked why they don’t make anymore, they will be able to say the first one didn’t sell,that even black kids don’t want to watch a black princess movie.

Can you not see what they are trying to do? Look at Obama and Michelle. Look good at the prince ad princess. Sometimes we need to look at the bigger picture; If it was a movie about the President and his wife would you then say it was racist? A few years ago they would never contemplate making a Black Disney Movie. Thank God for Obama and Michelle.

Well if he’s not white, then what the hell is he? and why was anika nomi- rose relluctant to say his race? i dont buy into that love is love bulls**t. and i feel that anika was just saying the right things so she wouldnt offend the Disney execs. Public relation comments are always fake and fabricated. And this still doesnt give answer to why the prince simply couldnt have been black and complimented the race of his princess, like all the other princesses before her. Im not buying this. and definitely not watching.
