Beyonce has a way of surprising us, without really surprising us. She dropped the gotta’-love-a-leotard video for “Single Ladies,” alongside “If I Were a Boy.” Then she quickly hustled her way into “Diva,” while singing to Michael Ealy in “Halo.” And now, because we shouldn’t expect anything else from the girl, much less doubt her work ethic and ability, she’s dropping another duo.
Amidst the preparation for her world tour (kicking off later this month in Canada), Beyonce has officially announced her next singles as “Broken-Hearted Girl” from the I Am… portion of her double album, and “Ego,” which appears on the Sasha Fierce part of the set. Yes, she’s preparing to visit the U.S., U.K., Ethiopia, Japan, and Brazil (amongst other places), but B has still made time to shoot the accompanying videos. She says:
“My goal for [the ‘Ego’ video] is simplicity. In ‘Single Ladies,’ I saw this old tape of Bob Fosse’s wife and I used that as inspiration. I thought in this world, with all the technology and everything that’s going on, to strip everything down — great idea. So I kind of did the same thing, but glossy and black, for ‘Ego.’”
No word yet on the art direction for “Broken-Hearted Girl,” but we can only hope it’ll look as good as this. Yes, another video. – Danielle Cheesman
