LisaRaye

Rolling Out magazine recently interviewed actress LisaRaye McCoy. Here are some excerpts from the conversation:

On her public divorce helping others: I think the only way you can encourage people is through your experiences, your pains and your joys. That’s what I am working to do with my situation.

Her thoughts on the disparaging remarks made by rapper Khia: Khia? Khia Who? And what do I care about any of that? If I wasn’t hot enough to still have people talking about me, they wouldn’t be saying anything. So I must be relevant to them and to her.

Is LisaRaye dating Al Sharpton?

Her position on the responsibility of celebrities: At some point in time we [celebrities] have to take responsibility for what’s going on in the world … for our music; for the lyrics. You can’t be rapping and singing about the same things, or even talking about the same things that you talked about 10 years ago. Where’s the growth?

Her decision to avoid discussions of light-skinned vs. dark-skinned: I don’t get into issues of light-skinned [vs.] dark-skinned, because to me all black is beautiful. We are the only race that comes in multiple colors, and I love it. So what we need to do as a race – as women and as sisters – is come together. I bleed just like you do.

Her belief that she’ll find love again: I am a fan of love. I am a fan of friendship. I’m a fan of a partnership. Who wants to fight in this world alone? That’s boring … that’s lonely.

LisaRaye is much better seen than heard. Her answers sound like she’s in a Miss America pageant. The last part about light-skinned and dark-skinned really knocks me out. You women and sisters will always find excuses to scratch and claw at each other. You’re like crabs in a bucket. One of you tries to climb up, 6 others will pull you back in…

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/rogimusprime/ rogimusprime

wow, crabs in a bucket. Hilarious. That’s my analogy for the week!

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/DaintyJen/ DaintyJen

umm @ LastManStandingTall.. its not just women. Brothas, men do it to each other everyday. A brotha who was raised in a better household= he’s a “lame”. A brotha that has a different style then the usual baggy clothes, or name brand colorful outfits (that make men look like a living/breathing candy cane), or forces—let this brotha wear his clothes differently or a little tighter= he’s a “f-a-g”. Let a brotha date a big girl instead of usual= he’s a “simp”. I can make this list go on forever but its not just sistas/women our people as a whole is just 1 big old pile of hot mess.

but back to the point….yawn @ this article but hey i just figured out the answer to # 8!

Wow how ignorant! A LOT of races come in multiple colors!

LOVE HER!!!! YALL QUIT HATING S HIT

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/lottahips4u/ lottahips4u

i don’t think she meant any harm in that statement and i thought it to be true myself for a while until i met some of my Hispanic friends family member and until i started working for Arab people some of them look black hispanic and white it’s really just a people of color thing because that same issue of light versus dark rings true in the Hispanic community they go at it the same way black people do probably not as hard but they do have mild issues of light skin and dark skin

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/hunnibunnz/ hunnibunnz

I don’t think she meant any harm either, but it is an ignorant statement.

And as a light Hispanic person, I can say our skin tone issues are just as deep as black peoples. Sometimes maybe even worse, because us light ones are often seen as white and that is a slap in the face to our heritage. Even if I correct someone they say “Well you look white, so you are white”. Wtf is that? Deny my heritage because that person is ignorant? No! My dad didn’t even come to the U.S. until he was 17! Lol… And as far as black Hispanics, people don’t understand them, either. Most people think if you are Hispanic you are just tan with brown eyes and black hair and that you are a Mexican, and that’s just not true, that’s ignorance. And those of us who are not still take pride our heritage just as much.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/DAREALRECKLESS/ DAREALRECKLESS

bull$hit!……….the MAJORITY of YOU hispanic people don’t even “recognize” your African heritage. you can fool these coons but you can’t fool me. EYE’ see through bull$hit as if EYE were looking through a glass window.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/hunnibunnz/ hunnibunnz

What does that have to do with anything I was talking about? Calm the fucc down.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/_A_/ _A_

Lisa should stick to what she does best and that’s showing her a…..ss..We don’t come in different colors, those different colors are a result of intermixing which was typically done when the slave masters were raping our women! The original people of the earth were Black. Thats not meant as a slight, or doesn’t make me better than anyone else, however, its an irrefutable fact!

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/DAREALRECKLESS/ DAREALRECKLESS

well you were talking about HERITAGE(being proud of) and SKIN TONE……….now lets think for a second……………

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/DaintyJen/ DaintyJen

umm @ hunnibunnz ” I can say our skin tone issues are just as deep as black peoples. **Sometimes maybe even worse**, because us light ones are often seen as white and that is a slap in the face to our heritage”

that was an ignorant statement as well. it isnt “deeper” its all the same b.s. If you were up on the news about light vs. dark you wouldnt have made a comment like that as well…

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/hunnibunnz/ hunnibunnz

Ay, you can calm that shyt down right now papi don’t talk to me like that. I’m not stupid. I was just saying that not only Black people come in different shades. And that just because someone is light doesn’t make them Caucasian and doesn’t mean thy aren’t proud of where they came from. You are trying to pick a fight and I’m not down for that. Not in the mood to argue or discuss anything deeper than what I’ve already said. Have a good day.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/hunnibunnz/ hunnibunnz

@DaintyJen: I said “sometimes maybe” meaning I’m not stating a fact. So that’s not ignorance, that’s a suggestion. You aren’t me so you don’t know what it’s like for me. And I’m not you so I don’t know what it’s like for you. Either way neither of us can say for a fact who has it worse or better or the same because neither of us can see it from the others’ perspective. And I’m up on all the news I need to be, thank you.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/DAREALRECKLESS/ DAREALRECKLESS

“education” Hispanic community they go at it the same way black people do probably not as hard but they do have mild issues of light skin and dark skin”

You know what, you might fool an idiot with this line but eye am FAR from an idiot!
EYE KNOW how darkskin puerto rican are treated in PR
EYE KNOW how darkskin CUBANS are treated in CUBA
EYE KNOW how darkskin dominicans are treated
EYE KNOW how AFRO-LATINOS ARE TREATED IN THEIR ESPECTED COUNTRIES!!!!!!!
miss me with the bull$hit! that american blacks are the worse when it comes to this subject righ hea!!!!

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/DaintyJen/ DaintyJen

there are people out there that suggest blacks should to go back to africa. there are people that suggest that women should set aside their happiness to please others. there are people that suggest selling drugs is the way to make a living. there are people that suggest violence is the way to handle things. I mean this child went and bought a gun and shot little boy Eric because his “people” suggested that, thats how to handle things. Ignorant suggestions are what get into the minds of the young thus creating generations of ignorant individuals.

so my mistake @ hunnibunnz….it was an ignorant suggestion (difference?)

HOLD ON. KHIA IS BACK IN THE NEWS? LOL. SHE GOT AN ALBUM COMING OUT? STARTING BEEF TO INCREASE RECORD SALES? LOL. ANYWAY, DIAMOND, ER, LISA RAYE IS COMING OUT WITH A REALITY SHOW EXPOSING STAR JONES, VIVICA FOX, ROCSI FROM 106 AND PARK IN NEW YORK CITY, AND DUANE MARTIN, HER FORMER CO-STAR. I BELIEVE ITS ALL ABOUT HER DIVORCE FROM THAT BIG DUDE FROM TURKS AND CAICOS AND THE FALLOUT. THIS IS MORE NEWS THAN KHIA DISSING HER. WHATEVER SHE SAID. LOL

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/shaggakhan2009/ shaggakhan2009

Lisa makes perfectly good sense. She has made a healing statement. But it appears that you single digit IQ Negros, Puerto Ricans, Whites (why are you even here?) prefer to keep up the madness. You all have “color/shade issues” and need serious psychological help. She made an intelligent statement meant to dismiss the madness (at least for her) and you raggamuffins still complain.

Also, a statement was made by some “chick” on this post that Lisa Raye should stick to what she knows best, which is shaking her ass. To that poster, I propose that Lisa has a great ass to shake and that you ALSO should stick to what YOU know best — working at Popeyes and sucking your teeth while mangling the English language then about complaining about your Baby’s Daddy.

Wow, I must need a vacation— because I can’t believe I bothered to read and respond to this trivial bulls**t that you people LIVE for! —- HAHAHAHA, I must be crazy today b/c this is truly a waste of my time.

    kudos to LisaRaye

Sick of the lite vs. dark bull$hit and im glad she took advantage of the opportunity to say the right thing.

Bunnibunnz, ur right. Hispaninc come in different colors too
    BUT
you will not claim african heritage

ex: have u heard of a hispanic claim EVERYTHING BUT having black culture. And AFRICAN CULTURE SHAPED THE HISPANIC CULTURE THAT U KNOW!!!!

but u will neva claim it

    HOWEVER!

Hispanins thinks its cool to say: N!gga.

but they wont claim the black culture.
    Dont half step it.

PLUS More Hispanics claim to be white-Hispanic even if they have the same complexion as lisaRaye before they will claim to be as black-hispanic.

so now, whats the problem again????

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/StarrSantiago/ StarrSantiago

    NEWSFLASH: Hispanic/Latino is NOT a race! It’s a culture/ethnic group.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/misspink8/ misspink8

um to last man standing tall, its not us women that created this light skinned dark skin crap its these rappers dat did every song that out u hear a nigga sayin “i like em red bone thick” so it was men that created that its just women that are stupid enough 2 believe in the hype. Don’t call someone beutiful cuz they r light skinned if they look like hell, then there wouldn’t be a problem

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/sylkiifeather/ sylkiifeather

lmao @ the race topic. it will never end. and black people will always be divided over skin, because black people will always try so hard to fit into mainsteam (white) america. and i will continue to say this on d*mn near every post about race. it pointless to even discuss it really. because black people will continue to exhibit intra-racism. that will not change.

@ hunni….i continue to laugh at lighter skinned people who complain about being lighter skinned…especially in this society where light is right. no one will have sympathy for you just because people confuse you as being white. especially when i bet you would rather be confused with being white than with being black. so miss me with all that…
