How did you get started?

I’ve always been interested in art and literature. I didn’t know I was going make a career out of this passion of mine. It was just a hobby. When I graduated from college, I was looking for a full time job as a journalist, but I was making my money from fashion. It was feeding me, so I went in that direction.

What was your big break moment?

Working with June Ambrose was an incredible time in my career. I had been working in LA working with several stylist in the whole Hollywood, film and editorial business. Moving to June was sort of like the onset of my career into the music world. In my first year with her, I was working on several tours like Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige, and Mariah Carey. It was definitely a grooming experience. I did so much in such a little amount of time. It gave me a foundation, so I learned how to basically build a business! I learned how to take fashion styling into a business.

What staple items should women have in their wardrobes?

The items I feel every single woman should have in her closet are one, a black blazer, preferably of a silk/wool blend. It’s such a great item. You can double it with jeans when you want to be casual or do it with a white tank top and sequins mini skirt. It adds structure to everything and is a piece that can transition almost any wardrobe look. Second, a great fitting pair of slacks. Third, every woman should have a great handbag. I think a good handbag will take you places for years.

Trend No-No’s

Everything is okay until it’s done in excess. I think jeggings have been done excessively. The black tight/legging has become such a crutch. I see them in the club, at black tie events. I see women in leggings with a great pair of heels and a top and then the same leggings in the gym or grocery store. It’s an obsession, it’s a disease! It’s gross! It’s so excessive. I’d love to see women turn that down a bit. I’ll stop there because otherwise we’ll be talking about these for hours.

Three items Becca can’t live without

Number one would be my black Givenchy Nightingale bag because I wear that almost every day. It’s very durable; it’s a good bag. The second item is a black pair of French connection cargo pants. These pants fit me impeccably, and they are slim cut. I can easily wear them with pumps and look amazing or my favorite pair of Havanas, too. The third is my favorite pair of sunglasses by designer Benjamin.
