As we all know, the Republicans be hating, especially on Attorney General Eric Holder, but now they’ve been throwing a bit of shade towards U.S. attorney and Attorney General hopeful, Loretta Lynch. They made it clear that they wouldn’t vote Holder in and now they’re dragging their feet with Ms. Lynch. All she needs is three of their votes to proceed to a vote by the full Senate and while the questioning from the Judiciary Committee was tough, it was fair and even reported as being cordial. Go figure. Ms. Lynch was able to expertly answer the questions about terrorism, drugs and surveillance and managed to appear as an independent alternative.

“You’ve asked how I will be different from Eric Holder,” Ms. Lynch told Senator Ted Cruz, Republican of Texas. She responded, “I will be Loretta Lynch.” Yasss! We love it! It’s being reported that that very statement may be enough to win Ms. Lynch her confirmation. Since the Republicans loathe Eric Holder, they want nothing more than to hear that Ms. Lynch would be nothing like him. Ms. Lynch emerged as the top choice to replace Holder back in November 2014. Holder announced in September that he would step down once there was someone there to replace him. Clearly, that someone is Lynch. She is currently the top prosecutor in Brooklyn, New York and if she gets the position, she will be the first Black woman to serve as the attorney general–which is the nation’s top law enforcement official.

When it came to immigration, a hot button topic, Lynch dominated the conversation, supporting President Obama all while keeping her cool. The Republicans criticized Holder as too politically close to President Obama and they repeatedly slammed the administration’s new policy granting work permits and temporary deportation relief to some four million people who are in the country illegally. The committee chairman, Sen. Charles Grassley called the effort “a dangerous abuse of executive authority.” Ms. Lynch confirmed that she had nothing to do with drafting the measures but called them “a reasonable way to marshal limited resources to deal with the problem” of illegal immigration. She said the Homeland Security Department is focusing on removals of “the most dangerous of the undocumented immigrants among us.”

There were a few of Holder’s beliefs that she supported: Holder’s assertions that interrogation by waterboarding is torture and illegal, that civilian courts are an appropriate venue to prosecute suspected terrorists captured overseas and that the department’s limited resources are best reserved for prosecuting violent offenders.

However, because her office is currently leading the investigation into the chokehold death of Eric Garner, she was careful to express solidarity with police. In this racially charged time and the tensions building because of the deaths White police officers have caused Black youth, the topic is a sticky one. “What I have found most effective is getting people together and simply listening to their concerns, being open, helping them see that, in fact, we are all in this together,” she said Wednesday. Holder was lambasted for standing with the #BlackLivesMatter movement.

Democrats see some Republicans, such as Senators Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Orrin G. Hatch of Utah and Jeff Flake of Arizona, as possible confirmation votes. Mr. Flake said he had made no decision on Ms. Lynch but had come away with a favorable impression and expected that she would be confirmed. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, a Rhode Island Democrat on the panel, said she had given “a flawless performance.” Senator Richard Blumenthal, Democrat of Connecticut, called her testimony “among the most accomplished and impressive that I’ve seen as a member of this committee.”

Looks like Loretta Lynch is about to get a new job! We love that she’s a tell-it-like-it-is kinda woman and owns it. We’re watching you Loretta!
