Michael Brown may have been unarmed when officer Darren Wilson gunned him down, but Pharrell doesn’t believe he was completely innocent.

The producer told Ebony magazine that although he is upset over Michael’s death and how it went down, he was perturbed by the teen’s behavior just moments before he was killed. In surveillance footage of the teen released earlier this year, he could allegedly be seen roughly stealing some cigarillos from a convenience store.

Pharrell questioned why this confrontational behavior wasn’t a bigger part of the dialouge in the aftermath of his shootin death. “It looked very bullyish; that in itself I had a problem with,” said Pharrell. “Not with the kid, but with whatever happened in his life for him to arrive at a place where that behavior is OK. Why aren’t we talking about that?”

Michael’s prior action aside, Pharrell is still incredibly disappointed that the grand jury in Ferguson chose not to indict Darren even though he was using excessive force in a situation that did not require it

“I believe that [the] Ferguson officer should be punished and serve time. He used excessive force on a human being who was merely a child. He was a baby, man,” Pharrell stated. “The boy was walking in the middle of the street when the police supposedly told him to ‘get the f*ck on the sidewalk.’”

He continued, “If you don’t listen to that, after just having pushed a storeowner, you’re asking for trouble. But you’re not asking to be killed. Some of these youth feel hunted and preyed upon, and that’s why that officer needs to be punished.”

Pharrell wasn’t done there, though. Like so many others in the Black community, the “Voice” mentor also took issue with President Barack Obama in his handling of the shooting.

“I felt like the president should have gone down there. I think sending Attorney General Eric Holder was a kind gesture, but the president should have gone,” the producer asserted. “He didn’t have to go and take a side; all he needed to do was show his presence and everybody would have straightened up. But he didn’t go.”

Pharrell showed the president a bit of compassion in his closing statements on the matter. I won’t fault him,” he said. “He’s a man with a lot of weight on his shoulders, but I personally would have gone because being a ‘man of the people’ means you’re right there with them in it.”
