Review of r&b crooner Frank Ocean's debut Los Angeles showat the El Rey Theatre on Nov. 15, 2011 in

After four years of waiting, Frank Ocean has finally released his sophomore album entitled Blond.

The wait seems to have been worth it, because the highly anticipated album features a slew of heavy hitters like Kanye West, Beyoncé, Andre 3000, Jazmine Sullivan, Kendrick Lamar, Tyler the Creator, James Blake, Pharrell Williams, Rick Rubin, 88 Keys, and the late Davide Bowie — who are all listed as contributors.

The album drop on Apple Music comes 48 hours after he debuted his visual album, Endless and a video for his first single “Nikes.”

Sonically, the album pulls from R&B, rock, hip-hop, and electronic-house — what Rolling Stone calls a post-millennial pop record. As expected, Frank, born Christopher Breaux, talks about everything from materialism and partying to the fragility of life.

Rolling Stone notes: [Blonde] has the same contemplative and poetic tone as Ocean’s lionized 2012 debut. In fact, it is so meditative that there are few beats at all; most of the Apple Music version is just gauzy laptop washes, pianos, laconically strummed guitars and his voice. He seems to have stripped himself to his bare thoughts, some of which he expresses inchoately.

Coinciding with the album release on Saturday, the 28-year-old had a few pop-up shops that magically opened in Los Angeles, NYC, Chicago, and London. These smalls shops sold Boys Don’t Cry magazine, a collection of artwork from many of the Endless collaborators, as well as essays and interviews from Kanye, Lil B, and Frank himself.

In it, Frank pens a poem for his ideal mate called “Boyfriend.”

According to Paper, copies of the magazine are going for $1,000 a pop on eBay.
