I hate when people automatically blame the parenting when their children make reckless decisions. As a parent, you can only prepare and influence your child to make the right decisions in their life when those life decisions will eventually arise but ultimately the child is still the “one” who has to make those decisions, not the parent. I’ve seen some people who had horrible trifling parents that are very successful now and divine at a high standard because of the decisions they ultimately made and the road they chose to take, and I’ve seen some with great parents that are perennial f’ups. So you can’t always blame the parents because no matter what, the child still controls their own destiny.
