While we’re still a few months away from the release of Will Smith‘s next film, “Suicide Squad,” he’s been doing a lot more interviews following his wife Jada Pinkett Smith calling for a boycott of the Oscars over its lack of diversity.

He recently spoke with radio personality A.Dot, host of BBC Radio’s “1xtra” show. One of the first questions she asked him was about his two youngest kids, Willow and Jaden.

“Your kids have a lot of freedom of expression, is that something you consciously encouraged them to have?”

Smith said, “Yeah, I think that may have been a mistake. (Laughs) I think we may have gone too far.”

“Well then how do you respond if you’ve encouraged them to have freedom of expression then people start making jokes for example about Jaden modeling women’s clothes?” (Jaden is currently the face of Louis Vuitton’s women’s line)

“There’s a really powerful internal quality as an artist that as parents we encourage,” he began. “You have to get out on the edge, you have to try things, you have to be comfortable doing things that people don’t agree with and you have to be comfortable doing things where you could fail.

“Jaden is 100% fearless, he will do anything,” Smith continued. “As a parent it’s scary. But he is completely willing to live and die by his own artistic decision and he doesn’t concern himself with what people think.”

When asked whether or not 15-year-old Willow has a curfew? Smith said she’s supposed to be home by 11:30 p.m. on the weekends.

A.Dot ends the interview by asking, “Who was the better Aunt Viv? The first [Janet Hubert] or the second [Daphne Reid]?”

Smith bursts into laughter—like ‘Kevin Hart just told the funniest joke in the history of jokes’ laughter. The trained actor tactfully responds, “I think both of the Aunt Vivs were really, really fantastic…I think Janet Hubert brought a really powerful dignity to the show…”

A.Dot interrupts Smith mid-sentence, “Do you still like her?”

Note that you can’t catch Will Smith off guard! That poker face is solid!

He adds, “I think she’s brilliant. As an artist there are so many things that she does; she sings, she dances, she’s a really powerful um, artist. So I loved what she brought to the Fresh Prince.”

Good job, Will. He knows better than to say anything sideways about Janet because she has enough free time on her hands to record ANOTHER Facebook video that would read him for filth!

PS: Smith confirmed that he recently saw Martin Lawrence and they’re still planning to film Bad Boys 3.

Beauties, what do you think about Will and Jada’s style of parenting?
