A Chicago man has been charged with first-degree murder in the suspected gang-related shooting of nine-year-old Tyshawn Lee, The New York Daily News reports.

The announcement was made on Twitter early Friday by Chicago Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi. A press conference is expected to reveal more details behind Corey Morgan’s charges.

Tyshawn was lured into an alleyway earlier this month and shot execution-style in the head and back, police said.

Last week, Morgan, 27, was arrested on gun charges and considered a person of interest in the shooting.

From the NY Daily News:

Police first questioned Morgan two days after the fourth grader’s Nov. 2 death, the Chicago Tribune reported, but he was released without charges.

Earlier this month, Morgan was arrested on weapons charges unrelated to Tyshawn’s death. He was released from jail after he paid the required $100,000 of his $1 million bond.

Police believe the child was killed due to his father’s alleged gang conflict with a member of the Terror Dome faction of the Black P Stones. Pierre Stokes is reportedly a part of the Killa Ward chapter of the Gangster Disciples.

According to CNN, the Auburn-Gresham area where Tyshawn resided is considered to be one of the city’s most dangerous neighborhoods. Overall, though, crime has gone down in Chicago — the FBI reported 411 homicides in 2014, compared to 503 murders in 2012.

According to ABC News, an arrest warrant for first-degree murder was also issued for 22-year-old Kevin Edwards. A third person-of-interest, whom police have not identified, is in custody on an unrelated offense. He is expected to be charged with 1st-degree murder in Tyshawn’s death.
