An Alabama mother won the respect of parents everywhere when she publicly chastised her daughters for poor behavior at a local movie theater and apologized to the patrons they disrupted.

Kyesha Smith Wood was outraged to learn that her daughters had been loud and obnoxious during a showing of Disney’s live-action Cinderella recently. According to CNN, the pair were so disruptive that one of the other patrons had to ask them to quiet down, but they ignored the request and continued their rude behavior.

She was further embarrassed to learn that the woman who had approached the girls during the showing later revealed to them that her husband had just been laid off, and this was the last movie she could take her daughter to see for the foreseeable future.

Wood then took to Facebook on the off-chance that she might be able to reach out to the fellow mom to make amends.

“The woman I’m looking for addressed them and asked them to be quiet and they were disrespectful,” she wrote in a note on Saturday, apologizing for how her girls acted. “This rude, disrespectful, and awful behavior is unacceptable and they owe you an apology.”

Although she posted her own apology on a community page, Wood didn’t think there was much chance that it would ever reach its intended recipient. However, the post was picked up by the Jefferson County Sherriff’s Office and shared on its page. It has since be shared more than 52,000 times, garnering well over 260,000 likes.

Word eventually reached Rebecca Boyd, who was the woman who approached Wood’s daughters, and she got in contact with the mortified mom. As upset as Boyd was by the incident, she was grateful to Wood for working to instill a common sense of respect in her daughters.

“The note from their mom brought me to tears and shows there is still good people in the world,” Boyd wrote in a reply on the sheriff’s department Facebook page. “I have no hard feelings towards them and I am proud of their parents. The girls are not bad…they are children. Glad they are learning a lesson. I hope if my teenagers are out and they act up…I hope someone says something to them.”

Wood assured that her girls are currently writing up apology letters. To further make amends for ruining the family treat, Wood stated that her family would like to pay for Boyd’s next movie out of their daughters’ allowances.

Furthermore, she was thankful that Boyd did something that most other adults would not dream of doing these days. “She took it upon herself to correct my girls and nobody else did,” Wood told CNN. “She’s the most gracious and kind and forgiving woman. I am so humbled by that.”
