Elle Varner is the kinda of girl you totally obsess over. She’s got a pretty awesome set of pipes, a quirky fearless sense of style, and a very crush-worthy head of hair. I got a chance to chat with the Grammy-nominated singer and she dished about her upcoming journey for music’s biggest night, how she styles those curls we love so much, and what products you can use to duplicate that perfect spiral look of hers.

Hello Beautiful: This is your second year as an ambassador for Clear Ultra Shea. Tell us why you love this brand so much?

Elle Varner: I love Clear for two reasons. One, they really understand inner beauty and I love what they stand for. I don’t ever work with any company where I don’t believe in who they are or what they do. Two, I have the Clear moisturizing oil in my hair right now and it’s something that I’ve been using for months. It’s been one of the greatest things that I’ve incorporated into my daily routine.

HB: What are some of your other favorite products?

EV: I’m really a DIY girl so I really like homemade products. And I use a lot of coconut oil.

HB: What are some of your hair must-haves for #TeamNatural?

EV: An 8 inch curling iron is a necessity. That’s how you will perfect those teeny tiny spiral curls.

You should also invest in a curly hair towel [winks, nods, and smiles]. This is no regular towel. It actually absorbs water differently so that your hair doesn’t frizz.

HB: The weather in LA is much different from our 10 degrees here in the Big Apple. Are you still doing the wet-n-go technique to style your hair?

EV: Yea this weather sucks! But today I used a diffuser. Going out with your hair wet in this crazy cold weather is the biggest no-no. But I honestly love it here, I don’t think I am ever leaving.

HB: If you had to pick a head a hair from one celebrity to have for the rest of your life, who would it be and why?

EV: Amy Winehouse!!! The beehive is so classic, fun and different from what anyone else is wearing.

HB: You were born Gabrielle Varner, when did you become Elle?

EV: I became Elle in college right before I graduated. I was in IKEA one evening and a woman was calling her child, “Elle, come here”, I thought it was such a cute name. And I hated being called Gabby, although I love the Gabby’s of the world… just didn’t like it for me.

#TeamBeautiful sends Elle a huge congrats as she preps for her first trip to the Grammys. Be a part of her journey and help her choose which hairstyles to rock during a week of red carpet events. Head over to the Clear Ultra Facebook page and VOTE!
