You’ve got to give it to good old Mitt Romney. This presidential hopeful knows just how to turn certain phrases of his speech into Twitter trending topics. As a latter of fact, Romney’s unintentional hilariousness goes beyond Twitter and goes viral. Last night’s phrase of choice for Romney was, “Binders full of women,” in reference to him claiming that he wanted diversity in his Cabinet when he was governor of Massachusetts.
Before the word “women” escaped his lips, there were already Twitter accounts, Tumblrs and the like littering the internet with hilarious images and tweets around the topic. President Obama has even joined in on the binder fun with a Twitter ad.
Check it out below:
The funniest part of Romney’s “Binders Full Of Women” is that, like most of the things from his mouth, it’s false. According to the Huffington Post, Romney didn’t request women’s groups to bring him female candidates, a group called Massachusetts Government Appointments Project (MassGAP) was responsible for the effort in 2002, once the group’s leaders realized that women held only 30 percent of the top positions in MA.

Romney also claimed that his great state of MA boasted the most women in senior leadership than any other state in America and it was his recruiting efforts, aka those binders full of women that did that for the state. But that’s just another little while lie that Romney told. The number of women in high-level appointed positions actually declined to 27.6 percent during his time as governor. Interesting. So I think it’s fair to say that Romney’s “Binder Full Of Women” is just as phony as his claims to not raise taxes.
