Rolling Out magazine recently interviewed actress LisaRaye McCoy. Here are some excerpts from the conversation:
On her public divorce helping others: I think the only way you can encourage people is through your experiences, your pains and your joys. That’s what I am working to do with my situation.
Her thoughts on the disparaging remarks made by rapper Khia: Khia? Khia Who? And what do I care about any of that? If I wasn’t hot enough to still have people talking about me, they wouldn’t be saying anything. So I must be relevant to them and to her.
Is LisaRaye dating Al Sharpton?
Her position on the responsibility of celebrities: At some point in time we [celebrities] have to take responsibility for what’s going on in the world … for our music; for the lyrics. You can’t be rapping and singing about the same things, or even talking about the same things that you talked about 10 years ago. Where’s the growth?
Her decision to avoid discussions of light-skinned vs. dark-skinned: I don’t get into issues of light-skinned [vs.] dark-skinned, because to me all black is beautiful. We are the only race that comes in multiple colors, and I love it. So what we need to do as a race – as women and as sisters – is come together. I bleed just like you do.
Her belief that she’ll find love again: I am a fan of love. I am a fan of friendship. I’m a fan of a partnership. Who wants to fight in this world alone? That’s boring … that’s lonely.
