Since the Lena Dunham’s Girls series came out in 2012, it has been analyzed and critiqued and loved and supported and questioned, and so much more. One thing that it hasn’t done – is resonated with a lot of Black women in general. This is not to say every single Black woman does not like the show, many just sort of feel “meh” about it. In its early stage, it also received a lot of criticism for showing a White-washed version of Brooklyn, and a lack of representation for people of color.

But maybe we can put all that behind us and give the show a try because none other than the President’s eldest daughter herself – Malia Obama – is apparently interning with Lena Dunham on the show. The 17-year old (whose birthday is today – happy birthday girl!) was spotted on the set of the HBO show in Williamsburg, Brooklyn on Thursday. Of course this should come as no surprise if you’ve been keeping up with the teen. She seems to have  expressed interest in the tv and film production industry, interning last year on the CBS show, Extant. Who knows, maybe we have the next major director on our hands in Malia.

We wish her all the best at her internship and for some of us, maybe we’ll actually see if Girls is worth a shot.
