“I knew there were a few women; they were teasing me, and things like that,” Walker said in a Ch. 7 Eyewitness News interview. This makes Walker one of the six women in the department. Way to break into an all boys club, ladies! Walker is already a legend, in basketball. The impressive firefighter’s high school basketball career boasts a staggering 2,376 points!

The new class brings the number of Jersey City firefighters to 557. City officials said that 47 members have been hired since Fulop took office. The hiring of the firefighters was made possible by funds from a $6.9 million federal Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant. The grant is expected to fund up to 49 new firefighters in total. We’re so proud of Walker! Girl Power!
