Once one of the biggest female names in hip-hop, the last several years has seen Eve embrace the soft life of marriage to husband Maximillion Cooper, being a mom and living overseas with her family.

She recently opened up in a new interview about the widely-circulated rumors about her husband’s billionaire status — and also making it clear that she has more than enough coins in the bank all of her own.

In a sit-down interview with Angie Martinez on her In Real Life podcast, Eve wanted to make sure that she clarified things for those who think she is merely a kept woman living off of her husband’s money.

When asked by Martinez if she is the “poster girl for the soft life,” Eve offered an explanation and an education on what she built.

“Yes… I worked on myself,” Eve began. “So, it’s not just soft life because of the man I’m with, because some people have this idea of what my life is because of this man or whatever. It’s because I f—king worked hard on my own s—t.”

Martinez then points out to Eve that the public perception at large is that her current comfortable life is because of her husband’s perceived billions in the bank — and that’s when Eve offers the actual monetary situation.

“Everybody says that… He’s not a billionaire,” Eve told Martinez. “I need to clear that up. He’s not a billionaire. Um, he ain’t broke, but I ain’t broke either. So, I’m not gonna be with a broke dude. You know what I mean?”

“Before I met him, I was doing work,” she continued. “But because I have him, it helped me do better work because he’s a good dude. I’m, like, really lucky. But beyond that, people who know me, who know me intimately, my friends, know that I don’t stop working on myself.”

The “illest pit bull in a skirt” also shared that self-care is an important part of her life these days.

“So, I do all the things. I do the healing, I do the acupuncture, I do the spinal energetics, I do the Reiki, I do the breath work… That’s my life. That’s who I am, for real. I do the work,” Eve said.

Eve and Cooper married in 2014 and welcomed their first child together in 2022, son Wilde Wolf Fife Alexander Somers Cooper.
