2. Liv’s Engagement: What the Huck!?
Remember Olivia’s boyfriend, Senator Edison, the man who loved wearing those Bill Cosby-like sweaters and was at Olivia’s every beck and call? Well, we knew they once dated, but this episode we learn they were specifically engaged and living together five years prior to her relationship with President Grant. We also find out that Olivia actually loved Senator Puddin’ Pop during this time and considered going through with the wedding…that is until she introduced him to her hard core father. For some reason, Papa Pope wasn’t too fond of Liv’s fiance and when she introduced the two gentlemen, he wasn’t the least bit impressed.
Now that Liv knew the truth about her father, she figured out a way she could use it against him. She demanded that her father set Huck free and give him back to her. Liv’s father agreed, but only under the condition that she let go of Edison and give him back the engagement ring. After all, a mere Senator was no match for Papa Pope’s baby girl, right?
Later in the episode, Huck finds out that Liv bargained her relationship with her father and her former fiance for his life and in one of the biggest plot turns of the episode, proceeds to almost choke her to death! Is this the end of their “Gladiator” bond!?
