Retired neurosurgeon, conservative pundit and potential 2016 presidential candidate (says who?) Dr. Ben Carson said recently in an interview with American Family Radio that he thinks women’s liberation and the “me generation” has led to police shootings like that of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. While we all know the real catalyst to police shooting unarmed Black men and boys is racism–the same systematic racism that has been complained about for who knows how long.

Dr. Carson thinks that broken families are to blame for the downtrodden Black youth. “Certainly in a lot of our inner cities, in particular the Black inner cities, where 73 percent of the young people are born out of wedlock, the majority of them have no father figure in their life. Usually the father figure is where you learn how to respond to authority,” Carson said. “So now you become a teenager, you’re out there, you have really no idea how to respond to authority, you eventually run into the police or you run into somebody else in the neighborhood who also doesn’t know how to respond but is badder than you are, and you get killed or you end up in the penal system.”

Yes, because single mothers or lesbian mothers never teach their children how to behave. When the show’s host Lauren Kitchens Stewards backed Dr. Carson up, she mentioned that the youth doesn’t have any respect for authority and they instead have a “sense of entitlement.” Dr. Carson couldn’t wait to agree, saying, “I think a lot of it really got started in the ’60s with the ‘me generation,’” he replied. “‘What’s in it for me?’ I hate to say it, but a lot of it had to do with the women’s lib movement. You know, ‘I’ve been taking care of my family, I’ve been doing that, what about me?’ You know, it really should be about us.”

Obviously Dr. Carson went to the same school of being Black that Bill Cosby and Don Lemon attended. SMH.

And for good measure, here’s a few ridiculous things Dr. Carson has said before:

1. “Well, my thoughts are that marriage is between a man and a woman. It’s a well-established, fundamental pillar of society and no group, be they gays, be they NAMBLA, be they people who believe in bestiality. It doesn’t matter what they are. They don’t get to change the definition. So he, it’s not something that is against gays, it’s against anybody who  wants to come along and change the fundamental definitions of pillars of society. It has significant ramifications.”

2. “Obamacare is really, I think, the worst thing that has happened in this nation since slavery. And it is … in a way, it is slavery.”

3.”Allowing oneself to be manipulated into violence, which then leads to militarization of the police, which then leads more of the people in your neighborhood getting hurt or killed, perhaps is not the smartest way to go about it. There are better ways to remedy an ill in society.”

4. “What we need to do though, in situations like Ferguson, there are a lot of young males, Michael Brown wasn’t one of them, but a lot of young males in inner cities who grew up in homes with no father figure. They never really learn how to relate to authority in the proper way and eventually they run into it and aren’t sure how to react.”

There’s more, but we’re going to just leave it at that last little nugget. Do you agree with Dr. Carson? Sound off in the comments below!
