Many people are still reeling from the shock that no African American actors were amongst the 20 nominees for this year’s Academy Awards. Immediately following the announcement, rapper and actor Ice Cube was a guest on The Wendy Williams Show.

Cube was there to promote his upcoming film with Kevin Hart, Ride Along 2, but Wendy had to ask his opinion on Straight Outta Compton being snubbed by the Academy. The biopic based on his former rap group N.W.A was a critically acclaimed box office success in 2015.

While the film did receive a nod for best original screenplay, it was two white writers, Jonathan Herman and Andrea Berloff, who were recognized.

“I’m not pissed [and] I’m not surprised. You know it’s the Oscars and they do what they do,” said Cube who was one of the film’s executive producers.

“The people loved the movie. The people supported the movie. Number one at the box office over $200 million worldwide. I can’t be mad.”

The cast of the film which includes Jason Mitchell, O’Shea Jackson Jr. and Corey Hawkins have already won several awards at film festivals. The biopic has also been nominated for multiple accolades at this year’s NAACP Awards, Producers Guild of America Awards and Screen Actors Guild Awards.
