Jaheim is the first to admit that it’s been a minute since he put out new music. But his forthcoming album Struggle Love comes at a time when both he and the world needed some good, quality R&B.

“It feels good to be alive again,” he said. “I’ve been asleep for maybe three years.”

This summer’s single Back In My Arms is a good old-fashioned love song. It’s the kind of music Jaheim is known for — raw, beautiful and emotional.

“I want to calm the earth down a little bit. It’s kind of boiling; lava is everywhere,” he said of today’s political and social climate. “We need to calm the earth down. I don’t have all the answers, I just love what I do.”

And while he isn’t taking any shots at today’s artists, he’s confident in his talent and the fact that his voice doesn’t need to be enhanced with auto-tune or other studio tricks to sound the way that it does.

“I do what I do. You’re not getting a machine, or this auto-tune effect,” he said. “No disrespect to anyone out there, but it is what it is. If you love that machine sound, that’s just what that is.”

Jaheim’s single Back In My Arms is available now on Amazon and iTunes and Struggle Love will be out in the coming months.
