Jay Z hopped into the Instagram game for a minute to say something really important before deciding it just wasn’t for him.

We were a little surprised to find out that Jay Z is about the social media life. Hov has always seemed to be a pretty private guy, letting his music give fans an insight on his life and thoughts. He has a Facebook and a Twitter account, but neither seem to be very personal.

Last night, he decided it was finally time to get on Instagram like his wife, Beyoncé. Not long after establishing the handle @Hovsince96, he put up a tribute to Michael Jackson. At the same time he let his 100,000+ followers know that they shouldn’t expect him to be too active on the app. Jay shared a shot of himself and Michael with the caption, “Happy birthday to the King. This may be my first and last post.”

True to his word, that Jay‘s only post. His friend music executive Michael Kyser got so excited, though, that he directed his followers to Hov’s page.

People must not have flocked soon enough because when the sun came up on Sunday morning, Hov had had a change of heart. His Instagram came down just 14 hours after the account had been created.

After recently hitting up Jay Cole‘s concert and with the MTV Video Music Awards going down this weekend, Hov would have had lots of exciting things to share. Ah, well! So much for the public’s hopes of getting a glimpse into a day in the life of Jay Z! There’s always Beyoncé‘s Instagram, and he’ll surely be making some cameos there.
