Jill Scott gave us life when she performed at The Fillmore in Washington, DC.

Along with her old hits like “It’s Love”, Scott graced us with the lead single, “Fool’s Gold” off of her new album,Womanwhich hits stores Friday, July 24. In the 15 years since Scott first hit the scene with Who is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds, Volume 1, she’s developed a strong sense of herself as a performer and what it is that she wants to deliver to her audience.

“I want the people to get slightly uncomfortable in their seats and want to leave here and make love in the car,” Scott said. “I want them to look at the person next to them and think, ‘oh my God, what am I doing here with you?’

“That’s life. Some couples are going this way, somebody is going the other. It’s an opportunity to hear your own thoughts without you thinking them. Not only am I going to give you this moment, I’m going to make it as true as possible.”

We think that Scott has accomplished just that. A devoted fan spoke to us before the show, saying:

“I love her music, I love the sexiness it exudes. I love the way it makes me feel. That’s what I’m looking forward to—just being up close and personal.”

There wasn’t a head that wasn’t bobbing, hips that weren’t swaying or a voice that wasn’t singing and humming along to the beautiful words and melodies from Scott’s set. Everyone got something special out of the performance, and hopefully a nice treat once they got home afterwards. As another booed-up fan told us in anticipation of the concert:

“There’s going to be a lot of lovemaking today.”
