The first thing I thought of when I spotted this headline was that…she’s a porn star, that’s still not asking for it. Lisa Taylor is a porn star. She visited an apartment in Moscow with two Belarussians, Dmitry Kosenkov, 30, and Maxim Pilipenko, 33, who claimed they wanted to discuss working together on a film. It was in that apartment that those men attacked Taylor, handcuffed her and raped her repeatedly for hours. Once they exhausted themselves, Taylor decided she would escape, so she jumped from the third-floor window.

As fate would have it, a neighbor, Blasius Vinogradov was walking his dog and Taylor hit the ground right in front of him. Vinogradov told a Moscow news crew:

“I was just minding my own business when this blonde girl with torn clothes and bleeding mouth hit the ground. She was unconscious and it was clear she had broken both her legs. I didn’t know what was going on, but I knew it wasn’t good.”

He called the police and both men were already upstairs in the apartment cleaning in a frenzy. They attempted to scrub away Taylor’s blood, but hadn’t had the chance to throw out her tattered clothing. Police arrested both men and they are reportedly held in custody until December 25th while their trial is scheduled. They will face up to 30 years in prison for their attack on Taylor.

Many people may turn their nose up at Taylor’s choice of profession and her choice to go with the men into the apartment. Whether she thought it was business or not, no one deserves to be raped. She was not asking for it and just because she’s a porn star doesn’t mean that she’s there as a sexual object for those men. It’s a shame we’re living in a world where women’s rights and just our basic regard as human beings are being trashed like yesterday’s garbage. Mary “Unique” Spears lost her life because the man who asked her for her phone number felt like shooting her because of her refusal. Women’s lives are in danger everyday. Whether it’s street harassment or rape, we’re not safe anymore.
