Halle Berry seems to have discovered what other Hollywood movie stars have realized for a few seasons now: going back to TV is where it’s at.

The 47-year-old-actress is making her first return to the small screen since the ’90s to star in Steven Spielberg’s new sci-fi thriller, “Extant,” which will premiere on CBS this summer. Berry will play “Molly Watts,” an astronaut who returns home after a year long solo mission in space and tries to reconnect with her husband and son. The plot thickens when she discovers that her return will have dramatic consequences for the planet and fate or mankind.

“Some of the best writing is on television right now,” Berry told PEOPLE magazine when discussing the futuristic project. “It is like the new golden age of television. As a woman, when I read this, it was such a strong character. I always gravitate toward strong, complicated woman characters. When I heard Steven Spielberg is a part of it, I thought, wow, that is another big reason to be a part of it.”

Berry also noted that the Los Angeles-based TV show will give her the flexibility of staying close to her two little ones. “I really wanted to work in town and be with my kids. I no longer can afford to have the gypsy life,” she said. “There are others who are more important and who I need to think about. This allows me to stay home and still do something really creative and cool that I love.”

With Kerry Washington scooping up awards on “Scandal,” Gabrielle Union helping to break BET ratings records as the star of “Being Mary Jane,” Nia Long starring in “The Single Mom’s Club” on OWN, and even more Black actresses, writers and directors landing shows, we’re excited to see Halle in this primetime lead and we hope the show’s a hit. Either way, keep it coming with projects starring brown Beauties, Hollywood!

“Extant” premieres Wednesday, July 9 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.  Watch the trailer below. Will you tune in?
