Rebecca Minkoff‘s show has quickly become one of the most popular runway shows under the tents at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Her show literally turns Lincoln Center into the true definition of chaos. It’s not surprising to see both the invited guest line and the even longer standing seat line wrapped around the venue because everybody wants to be there.
Imagine our excitement when we were able go backstage to get the inside scoop on the hair and make-up– because when your show gets to be that huge the beauty look that accompanies the collection becomes wanted by the customer.
For hair, an old picture of Bianca Jagger in Mexico, and iconic Mexican painter Frida Kahlo served as the guiding light for TRESemmé Stylist, Jeanie Syfu. The look was turned into a classic braided up-do to a wearable, textured style that’s a little messy to make the style more modern.
Here’s how to get this look: Damp hair was prepped with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Foaming Mousse and rough dried. It was then given a zig-zag side part from the hair-line to the center. After putting another zig zag part in on the heavier side of the hair to create three separate parts, brush the hair to create texture and put each section into a ponytail behind the hair. Then tease the hair and spray lightly with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray. Braid the three sections and wrap around the head, tucking the end of the braids under and securing them with bobby pins. Finish the look off with TRESemmé Fresh Start Color Care Dry Shampoo for a matte undone Minkoff ready hair style.
A portrait of Frida Kahlo was the inspiration for Rebecca’s make-up look, which was done with Stila products and created by makeup artist Sarah Lucero.

We had the opportunity to have some one-on-one time with Sarah Lucero to pick her brain about this look that she created for the runway show.
Hello Beautiful: When creating this look what was the most enjoyable part? Between the inspiration and deciding what direction you want to go in which was the best part.
Sarah Lucero: The best part about creating this look is, I would say I get to really be creative, and I love working with Jeanie with hair, I love working with Rebecca. Seeing the clothing, it allows me as an artist to kind of have a part in creating this girl who really is a nomad wonderer, and she’s exploring the Mexican dessert. I like that whenever I’m working with Rebecca and her team I get to just do my thing, create, and it either works perfectly or we adjust it, but thats the best part, I get to really be myself, and do what I feel is going to fit and thats always going to turn out the best.
HB: If you had to recommend one of the products for the Rebecca Minkoff customer to use what would you suggest?
SL: I would say smudge stick eyeliner by Stila in any color that you want, maybe a dark purple, a deep burgundy, chocolate-brown, or deep navy and a (Stila) convertible color, two products if I could squeeze one more in there. It’s a cream blush that you use on your cheek and lip, it fits in your bag, it’s what every make-up girl would have on.
