Social media has been added to the group chat once again as Teyana Taylor took to Instagram on March 19 to set the record straight about recent public discourse surrounding her divorce from NBA star Iman Shumpert. The Harlem-bred multi-hyphenate went live and made it abundantly clear that she’s had enough of the swirling rumors and public opinions.
In other words, sis said, “not too much on me.”
Teyana Taylor Goes Live To React To Social Media Commentary On Her Recent Divorce
Teyana’s live video comes after reports surfaced detailing her divorce settlement and subsequent fallout. As HelloBeautiful reported, Teyana walked away with assets totaling over $10 million—complete with cars, properties, and even her tour bus. Iman was also awarded vehicles and other high-value items.
“I walked away with what I came in with. Iman walked away with all his cars. I walked away with all my cars. We both bought each other old-school cars. That’s clear,” Teyana said on live, addressing public comments on her divorce settlement.
Teyana Taylor Denies Saying Her Ex-Husband Should Be Locked Up
Shortly after the final settlement made it to the news cycle, more news swirled about the singer-actress allegedly filing motions to stop Iman from leaking documents and publicly speaking about the divorce.
While Teyana discussed filing legal motions against Iman, she vehemently denied wanting him locked up.
“I’ve never, ever, ever said ‘put Iman in jail.’ Never, never,” she said, attempting to end that narrative.

Teyana Reminds Fans That She Is ‘That Girl’
Fans wasted no time chiming in, offering unsolicited opinions, advice, and think pieces on celebrity relationships.
While public discourse often comes with being a high-profile couple, Teyana made it clear that she never wanted the details of their divorce to play out this way. More importantly, she emphasized that she went out of her way to protect her ex-husband.
“Let me explain something to y’all…Some people are okay with looking bad just as long as you look worse. Y’all have to understand that before this divorce, during this divorce, and after this divorce, I protected that man with all I had in me,” she said, clad in a sweatshirt and natural makeup.
“I’ve been nothing but solid to that man, and all I asked for was for him to stand up for me,” Teyana added.

She reminded fans of her longstanding career: “We’re not going to act like I wasn’t Teyana Taylor before I got with Iman Shumpert. Iman was not even in the NBA when I was Teyana Taylor. Let’s be clear.”
As fans continue to debate online and dissect each new detail, Teyana’s live session serves as a reminder that relationships are real, messy, and personal, no matter who you are. No one will ever fully know the ins and outs of a relationship but the couple in it.
But what we do know is that Black women deserve support, respect, and understanding. Teyana Taylor will always be that girl—a hustler, an innovator, a mother, and a force in entertainment.
