Mayor Ras Baraka Called Racial Epithet In Facebook Exchange Between Newark Cops

A onetime Newark police officer and a current police lieutenant referred to the current African American mayor, Ras Baraka, as a “gorilla” during a Facebook exchange. Baraka has responded saying: “It’s unfortunate that this happened, and we will not tolerate an atmosphere of bigotry and intolerance anywhere in this administration. I still believe we have the best police force in the state of New Jersey.” The active-duty police lieutenant will remain working in the force as officials investigate the matter.
