Serena Williams is the 2015 Wimbledon champion as of yesterday. She is also two Grand slam title wins short of making history with the number of Grand slam titles won by a woman tennis player, she is the undeniable greatest of her time, and possibly the G.O.A.T (Greatest of all Time). She is beautiful from head to toe, and inside and out. But yet you have haters panicking from all sides, finding ways to diminish the greatness that she continues to achieve. Throughout her prolific career, she has had to deal with disgusting behavior from everyone – opponents, commentators, and “fans.”
Just two days ago, a tone-deaf article from the New York Times, decided that right before Williams’ final on Friday, instead of writing about the tennis and the body (that she has worked hard for) that made it all possible, they would instead write about how other women choose not to “bulk” up to Williams’ size because of wanting to be “feminine” or whatever. Indeed, the “body issues” are worth discussing, but please leave Serena out of your mouth as she has reiterated that she loves herself as she is. And so do the rest of us who love her and her body.
And as for you racist trolls are out there, please know that Serena’s fans (some of which are Black Twitter) are here for her. So if you ever get a little too brave, we will put you back in your place:
