Serena Williams. Serena Williams. Serena Williams.

Yes, say the name over and over again because the Queen is reigning and she has just made history yet again. Williams has just completed the Serena Slam with her win in Wimbledon this morning (or this afternoon UK time), and everybody who love tennis, loves excellence, and loves Black women just screamed, “YASSSSS!”

Early on in the match, Williams opposition Muguruza looked like she might give the six-time Wimbledon champion a run for her money, but Serena did the business in two straight sets, winning 6-4 6-4. So no, it was no walk in the park for Williams but there were also no spoilers, and I think we can all agree that Williams is undoubtedly deserving of this victory.

The victory means that Williams has completed what some are calling a “Serena Slam,” a feat she completed in 2002-2003 where she was just one Grand Slam shy over a complete sweep of the majors. She will have the opportunity to make it a clean sweep, however, come the U.S. open, and make it a complete calendar grand slam – something only three other women in tennis have achieved. After this victory, she is also only one shy of Steffi Graff’s record of 22 Grand slams. But for now, congrats Serena Williams, we are so proud of you!
