This week, Patricia Damas and Kirk Cameron share their love story and how Kirk stole Patricia’s heart.
I met Kirk through his cousin, Jason, who was also a college friend of mine. One day, Jason told me he was sick of seeing me home alone so he was going to hook me up with his cousin. Before I agreed, the first question I asked him was, “is he tall?” Jason said, “yup! He’s about 6 feet tall.” I love tall guys so after hearing that I was sold! He gave Kirk my number and he called me THAT day. Our conversation lasted about 30 minutes and all I did was laugh. He was so funny. Thereafter, we texted each other for about a week and eventually met face-to-face outside of a bar in Queens. When I walked out of the bar, he was sitting in his car and when he stood up and got out, he was about 6 inches shorter than me (I was wearing heels, but still!). I was so upset! First thing I said, “You are short!” He turned to me with a smile, “And, you’re tall, so what?” His smile was so captivating and his response was so witty that I just stood there smiling (and blushing). I’ve been smiling ever since.
Dating Kirk was a lot of fun. He’s funny, witty, adventurous, intelligent, nurturing, and so much more. Anytime we’re together, all we do is laugh.
THE MOMENT SHE HAD BEEN WAITING FOR
I knew he was going to propose to me, I just didn’t know when or where. So the night it happened, I was kind of praying on it. Earlier in the week, Kirk asked me if I wanted to go out on a date night that Friday. It’s something we do often so, at first, I didn’t think anything of it. I had an exam the next day and suggested we go earlier in the evening; he agreed. We went to a restaurant in the city that we both had never been to before. It was a romantic restaurant so, I was sure he was going to do it then. We ate, we laughed, we drank, and then paid the bill. NO RING. I was so annoyed. As we left, he asked if I wanted to go somewhere else. I said no, but he suggested that we go to our favorite fondue lounge that was around the corner from the restaurant. When we got there, he said, “I’m not proposing to you tonight so, stop waiting for it.” I laughed because he always knows what I’m thinking. It’s scary! He laughed too, and then we ordered some fondue. When our fruit platter arrived, he said, “This would’ve been the perfect night to propose though, right?” I said, “Yes, you should’ve thought about that!” He then turned the fruit platter around and under the grapes I saw a ring box. I instantly started crying. Then, he got on one knee and said, “Well, will you?” I said yes and the entire lounge clapped and cheered as I cried.
