It’s been a while since I personally covered the Trayvon Martin case on HelloBeautiful because, well, the case sickened me. I couldn’t figure out how the “Stand Your Ground” Law was even being considered as a defense for Zimmerman when the same courtesy wasn’t given to Florida mom, Marissa Alexander. This woman simply fired a warning shot to keep her abusive husband away from her and her children and was given 20 years in prison. Mind you, no one lost their lives in this case, but 17-year-old Martin lost his that fateful night in February and George Zimmerman claims self-defense.

Zimmerman’s self-defense claim may have a solid foundation to stand on with this new photo, no matter how suspect it is. The photo of a bloodied Zimmerman was posted on his website this week, showing the injuries the police reports constantly claimed Zimmerman sustained during his scuffle with Martin.

Zimmerman claims that the scuffle was a result of Martin charging at him, knocking him to the ground and repeatedly beating his head into the concrete. While I do believe there was a fight, I maintain that it was only Martin…fighting for his life against a man with a GUN!

Zimmerman’s defense says it intends to publish the rest of the new evidence “as soon as we are sure it has been properly redacted.” New evidence? Is this even fair at this point? Photos should have been the first pieces of evidence in this monumental case.

If Zimmerman truly received these injuries, how come we are just now seeing this “color photo” almost a full year later? Zimmerman’s reps claim the photo was originally released in black and white–why? This is 2012 and evidence (you can see) for such a sensational case is necessary!

Zimmerman is still facing second degree murder charges, but this photo may make his “Stand Your Ground” claim valid. I can’t stand for this. I just can’t! He doesn’t even look like he’s the same weigh in these photos! I can’t be alone in this!
