Ferguson Prosecutor Robert McCulloch Sued By Jury Member

A grand juror, under the name of “Grand Juror Doe” announced today that they are suing St. Louis County Attorney and Prosecutor Robert “Bob” McCulloch, for negatively “characterizing” the Darren Wilson case to the public. Back in November, it was McCulloch who had made the announcement of Wilson’s non-indictment for murdering unarmed Michael Brown in Ferguson on August 9th.

There has been public scrutiny of how the grand jury ultimately handled the situation and worse, individuals that were placed on the stand have confessed to not only lying but that McCulloch was aware. The suit wants the case’s moratorium (a fancy word for a case being closed or delayed) to be lifted so that other jurors who were involved could speak on their own behalf. The plaintiff also points out that McCulloch made it seem there was no evidence to support Wilson walking free, when there were “pages upon pages” of evidence. The complaints includes these statements:

“In [the grand juror]’s view, the current information available about the grand jurors’ views is not entirely accurate — especially the implication that all grand jurors believed that there was no support for any charges. Moreover, the public characterization of the grand jurors’ view of witnesses and evidence does not accord with [Doe]’s own. From [the grand juror]’s perspective, the investigation of Wilson had a stronger focus on the victim than in other cases presented to the grand jury…”

The American Civil Liberties Union of Missouri supports the grand juror lawsuit because the death of Brown became a national concern and was a “unique matter.” By having McCulloch as the main representation, the details of the Wilson case (in the jurors’ eyes) became “muddled.”

On one hand, this grand jury member has disclosed they voted against the non-indictment, they are upset that publicly there was “a stronger focus on the victim [Brown] than in other cases presented…” The lawsuit hopes that in no longer having McCulloch speak, it would “contribute to the current public dialogue concerning race relations.” We’ll see about that.

McCulloch’s camp has yet to release a statement on the suit. Messy messy.
