Bogus Engagement Bling?
Some things in a relationship are (or should be) considered not acceptable. Cheating. Emotional and/or physical abuse. An obsession with Soulja Boy.
But what if, in an otherwise good relationship, you discover the unthinkable. You realize that the rocks on your engagement ring are not diamond-they are cubic zirconia. For anyone who doesn’t know, cubic zirconia is a low-cost diamond look alike that is often clearer and more flawless than an actual diamond would be.
That’s right-you’ve been rocking a fake rock. You’ve been unknowingly showing off a deceptive stone sold in Wal-Marts around America.
Is this reason enough for a break up? To be clear, I am not saying that cubic zirconia itself is unacceptable. Maybe you’re the type of chick who doesn’t care about diamonds and you’ve decided with your man that a cubic zirconia ring is just fine. Also, perhaps your guy was unknowingly ripped off by a jeweler eager to cut costs or in the dark about the true nature of the “diamond.” This happens more then people think.
But what if, when confronting your man, he looks more guilty than surprised? What do you think, hello beautiful? Should you listen to his whines about the recession and the strain a real diamond ring would put on his wallet? Or would you keep feeling disrespected, thinking you should upgrade your man as well as your counterfeit rock?

Every time you buy a diamond the retailer is supposed to diamond test it right in front of you. if you dont know what that is and your buying diamonds then you dont know what your doing.

Diamonds are a rip off, there is nothing scarce or precious about diamonds there is a cartel that controls the supply and keeps the gemstones artifically high.

I don’t care if its a real diamond or not as long as it’s not lied about. The end result is being together. I don’t need a $10K ring. He can get the ring I want from HSN for all I care. As long as it’s the cut that I want. lol. Love is love and the ring has nothing to do with it.

My only thoughts on this is.. If the person that bought you the ring LIED and said it was a diamond, THEN there is a problem! The problem lies in the ‘Act of Dishonesty’ itself! NOT in whether the ring is ‘Real’ or not! If they are honest with you and let you know that they don’t have that kinda money, cool! Or if the two of you agree that a diamond actually IS money down the drain (which it really is), then.. That’s also cool. Note: In the Kimberley Diamond Mine in Africa, whenever the amount of diamonds exceed the ‘quota’, they ‘burn’ the excess diamonds in order to maintain the scarcity of them! When in love who cares if that man looks u in the eyes loves u respects u and takes care of your needs and wants screw the ring if you can’t afford it! Love is what counts! Life is short! Don’t base around a piece of ring a band says the same thing eternal love and that what counts at the end of the day! The diamond on the band is a bonus!

I can not believe you are actually writing an article about this. Like “Blurgh” said in their comment “Its a token of your love”. I mean times are hard, maybe he didn’t have the money to spend on a big expensive diamond. I mean unless you are balling, unlike most of us, all of the diamonds that are in these jewelery stores are probably blood diamonds. I hate the amount of attention that is giving towards this whole engagement ring thing, be happy that you have a man that wants you to be his wife. If you look at the situation like that, it doesn’t matter if you get a ring that is cubic zirconia or not, it just matters that you and this person is going to be in each other lives for the rest of our lives.

I think honesty is what matters most. As long as we both know what it is. There have been some long lasting relationships that happen between people who don’t have a lot of money. When the love is real that’s all that counts.
