The Black Panther Party was a force to be reckoned with during an era in American history where African-Americans fought to prevent their own subjugation.

During the 1960s and 1970s the Black Panther Party functioned as an organized front, ready and willing to militantly combat violence against black people. Their contributions to the development of a more liberated environment for African-Americans within a racist American society is immeasurable. Their importance to the process of building the societal structure that we now know is undeniable. As we celebrate another Black History Month, Hello Beautiful honors the influence that the Black Panther party has had in the Civil Rights historical canon.

How To Recreate Coretta Scott King’s Classic Look

As we remember their historical importance, and look back upon the Panther experience, we especially honor the strong, bold, powerful image of the Panther woman. The women of the organization were in many ways the coal that kept the engine running. They served an imperative purpose, and helped to propel the Panther message, but they always did so with style. The Panther women’s distinctive style holds its own place in our memories.

In honor of the characteristic urban military look that the Blck Panthers are not famous for, we’re giving you a look back at some vintage panther photos.

If you are interested in recreating the Panther look, we’ve got you covered! Take a look at some of our Panther inspired looks with a modern twist. Check out the originators of “All Black Everything” in our gallery, and dont forget to equip your self with a good pair of these:

Great article on the BPP Women. I was born in 68 in the state of Florida and I missed all of that. I have read alot about the founders and the good they all did. I thank God for them and their fight for justice. However, the fight should conutinue because the battle is not near over and the more we hide our faces from the problems the deeper it gets. Black planet thanks

preach on njamlovell. I wish we looked like this today, but instead we walk around hiding this beauty with wigs, weaves, fake nails, fake butts, fake tits, and fake attitudes to go along with it. I also wish our mentality was on this level as well. We’ve completely lost our morals,self-esteems,values,principals, and minds.

Wow that brought tears to my eyes. Just to think, they all had REAL HAIR! Oh I wish our women were REAL again!

Those were the true Black woman, like odoggz says they all had real hair.
Right on, njamlovell. Agree with Midwest about our mentality, we would be fierce black woman if we stood proud like the sisters of the Black Panthers.

The difference between us (those young women in the pictures, because I was one of them) and the young women of today, BPP encouraged reading and educating yourself, so that we could educate the community. Thus the awareness of what was happening in the community, the world around us and the world in general. The people must be educated – made aware for them to move to the next level.
As far as the hair thing – yes it was a time of being proud of who you were. Which was a new thing because a lot of women were wearing wigs, and frying their hair because they were shame. Im Black & Im Proud liberated many of us to wear a natural.
How you wear your hair makes no difference really, its how you wear your attitude about yourself, your people, etc. What difference does it make if you cannot find time for your community, other young girls, elders in the community? I know you get the point.
I heard someone say recently, if television was as powerful back then as it is now, the civil rights would never have happen. LOL
    Lauryn
P.S.: The person who is selling clothes with BPP pictures on it, I hope they are donating some of that money to keeping our history alive http://www.itsabouttimebpp.com

i have to agree my dear young lady,,,was of today have chosen to do the very thing we tried back then to get rid of..now most of our women are fat, un-attractive and  un worthy,,,they’ve now chose to emulate trashy white women..back then we were proud to be seen with them but can’t say that today..
