Surveillance Video Shows Black Inmate Being Strangled To Death In Oklahoma

An Oklahoma sheriff’s office has released video of an inmate dying after being strangled in a neck hold by jailers.

Darius Randell Robinson, 41, who died on April 5, was arrested for unpaid child support.

According to Frontiers, an autopsy said Robinson suffered a broken neck, several hemorrhages, and abrasions from his handcuffs. The coroner report stated Robinson’s death was labeled a homicide by asphyxiation.

Robinson’s family said that jail officials told them that Robinson had died from a heart attack, but they stressed that there was more behind the story. In response, to the autopsy, Robinson’s lawyers released a statement, KSWO News reported.

“Tragically, the autopsy confirms what the family suspected; Darius Robinson died as the result of excessive force. Specifically, the medical examiner concluded that Darius died from injuries consistent with manual strangulation. Darius’ injuries were directly caused by jailers at the Caddo County Jail,” they wrote on Wednesday.

They added, “This conduct is outrageous, and inconsistent with jail standards throughout the United States. We trust that the District Attorney will follow the law and file the appropriate criminal charges immediately against those jailers responsible for the strangulation and homicide of Darius Robinson.”

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is reportedly looking into Robinson’s death, Frontiers noted.

Yaaaaas! A 9-Year-Old Black Girl Is Officially The Smartest Person In The Marvel Universe

A lot of great news came out of Comic Con San Diego last week, including the Black Panther cast. But it’s important to not overlook Marvel’s huge announcement that the smartest person in their 9,000-plus universe will be an African-American girl.

Her name, which was revealed at a “Women of Marvel” panel, is Lunella Lafayette, a 9-year-old Black girl who goes by the superhero alter ego Moon Girl, Quartz recently reported. While Lunella debuted last year, in the upcoming third comic readers will be told the pre-teen is brilliant beyond anyone else.

“Lunella faces an impossible half-dozen science challenges that might not only prove her smarts, but also save the world,” said a Marvel editor Mark Paniccia, in a statement about the November arc, which will also include Hulk, Dr. Strange, and the X-Men.

Marvel continues to do right by Black women. Just last month, they announced Riri Williams, inspired by Skai Jackson, will replace Iron Man.
