Barack Obama has announced Merrick Garland as his Supreme Court nomination, according to CNN.

After months of controversy over who would take Justice Scalia’s seat, POTUS officially named Garland to take the chair.

Garland, 63, is the chief judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

Garland is a graduate of Harvard and Harvard Law.

As a lawyer at the Justice Department, he was the lead on the Unabomber case and the Oklahoma City bombing, according to CNN.

Obama praised the judge for his characteristics and reputation, “I have selected a nominee who is widely recognized not only as one of America’s sharpest legal minds, but someone who brings to his work a spirit of decency modesty, integrity, evenhandedness and excellence. These qualities and his long commitment to public service have earned him the respect and admiration from leaders from both sides of the aisle.”

Garland, humbled by the honor, said, “For me, their could be no higher public service than serving as a member of the Supreme Court,”

As we reported, Senate has no plans to vet the next Supreme Court chair, vowing to wait until the next president is in office to fill the seat.

Barack Obama launched a social media seat to urge Senate to action.

We will see if the nomination gets things rolling, or if the Republican Party will cause a historically unprecedented delay in choosing the next justice.
