Donald Trump Sues Univision For $500 Million

Donald Trump just won the a-hole of the century award for his latest stunt. After being dumped by NBC and Univision for his immensely racist comments about Mexican people, Trump is now suing Univision for millions of dollars for breaching their contract. Trump is calling it a “thinly-veiled attempt” to combat Trump’s freedom of speech and to put one of his competitors, Hillary Clinton, at an advantage in the 2016 presidential election. Univision’s response to Trump’s claims was priceless. It’s been a losing game for Trump so far; Macy’s just announced they’ll be dropping his merchandise in light of his racist comments as well. That’s right—Donna Karan is leaving her lead role at her world-renowned fashion house. Karan is staying on as an advisor at Donna Karan International yet is shifting her focus to her Urban Zen line, a brand grounded in wellness and artisanal goods. Read more at the New York Times.

Greece Accepts New Bailout Plan After Missing IMF Debt Deadline 

The Greek government has settled with the nation’s creditors on a bailout plan as long as creditors will assist in the country’s economic issues for the next two years. This comes just as the country missed its deadline to pay the International Monetary Fund $1.6 billion in debt. The announcement of the settlement from Greece’s Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras boosted European stocks; Tsipras is expected to speak on the matter today, noting amendments to the plan’s details on pension cuts and tax increases. New Statue Being Erected For MLK Outside Georgia Statehouse 

A Georgia state representative has confirmed the state is building a statue of Martin Luther King, Jr. to stand outside of the statehouse. The statue will be eight feet tall and will bear quotes from the heralded civil rights leader. Artist Andy Davis has been commissioned to design the structure which is slated to be completed by early 2016. Read more at the Huffington Post.

U.S. & Cuba Re-Open Embassies On Capitol Grounds

The U.S. and Cuba are announcing that they are opening embassies in each other’s capitols. This is a major development in Obama’s efforts to restore relations with the island country. Diplomatic relations with Cuba were halted in 1961 due to tensions with Cuban Revolutionary and Prime Minister, Fidel Castro. Read more at USA Today.

European Police Strikes Down On IS Social Media

A European Police unit is preparing to shut down social media accounts from leading Islamic State officials that spread propaganda and recruit new followers in other countries. The group sends out approximately 100,000 tweets a day. Thousands from Western Europe have migrated to Syria and Iraq to join the radical group. Europeans are now concerned about being at risk of terror attacks at home from fellow citizens who have returned radicalized by ISIS. Read more at the New York Times.
