Trevor Noah is a 31-year-old comedian from South Africa who has been tapped to replace Jon Stewart as the new hot of “The Daily Show.” Noah made is debut as an on-air contributor on the show in December, serving up hilarious segments about his life as a biracial South African living in the United States. Get this, Noah has only had three appearances on the show, so this promotion to host is a pleasant surprise. He didn’t even have to audition, Stewart wanted him based on his stand up performances and his appearances on “The Daily Show.”

We definitely wanted to see someone like comedienne, Jessica Williams to succeed Stewart and so did a lot of other supporters, but Williams took to her Twitter and said, “Thank you, but I am extremely under-qualified for the job!” Well now that we see Noah taking the spot, it’s obvious that experience wasn’t the forefront of the choice.

Stewart announced his departure from the popular Comedy Central show two months ago. The show’s success spanned over 16 years–that’s a huge legacy for a satiric pop culture show! It’s being reported that Stewart’s departure hasn’t been fully decided, but Noah’s currently in Dubai in the middle of a comedy tour. The New York Times spoke to Noah, who said, “You don’t believe it for the first few hours,” Mr. Noah said of learning about his new job. “You need a stiff drink, and then unfortunately you’re in a place where you can’t really get alcohol.”

This is an exciting time in television. Right in the middle of the awful “ethnic casting” conversation that’s rocking social media, Noah wins big on a huge platform. Not only is Noah a non-Caucasian heading up this Comedy Central franchise, he’s got youth on his side, adding even more vitality to Stewart’s legacy. Stewart is 100 percent behind Noah, saying, “I’m thrilled for the show and for Trevor. He’s a tremendous comic and talent that we’ve loved working with.” Mr. Stewart added that he “may rejoin as a correspondent just to be a part of it!!!”

While we would have loved to see a woman shake up the boys club, it’s amazing to see a brown face taking Stewart’s place. Michele Ganeless, the Comedy Central president, said in an interview: “We talked to women. We talked to men. We found in Trevor the best person for the job.” Ganless wasn’t looking for a “new” Jon Stewart, she was looking for someone who could bring something new and exciting and that person was Noah. He speaks six languages for goodness sake!

When Noah started performing comedy in his 20s, he’d been taught that “speaking freely about anything as a person of color, was considered treason.” He grew up in Soweto, the son of a Black Xhosa mother and a White Swiss father, whose union was illegal during the apartheid era. “He brings such a unique worldview and a deep understanding of human nature, which makes his comedy so insightful,” Ganeless added. “He’s truly a student of the world.”

Noah’s endorsements are a plenty and he seems the perfect fit for the gig. Noah told the NY Times, “He [Stewart] told me, ‘I was where you were when I took over the show. Nobody knew me. I was just starting out, finding my voice, and that’s when I was handed this seat.’ ”

We can’t wait to see what he does as captain.
