DiGiorno tried to take advantage of the #WhyIStayed hashtag last night only to discover it had made a huge mistake!
The frozen pizza company found itself burnt to a crisp after critics on Twitter set their mentions on fire for making a pizza joke in the middle of very serious, sensitive discussion. Monday’s #WhyIStayed hashtag was really remarkable for a couple of different reasons. Thousands of people were opening up about their experience with domestic violence, which is not always easy for victims and survivors to do. Not only that, but the trolling was at a minimum in regard to this trending topic and the #WhyILeft hashtag. Will wonders never cease?!
The honest session seemed really positive and supportive until DiGiorno tried to interject itself into the conversation with the following, poorly thought-out promotional tweet.

The comment was eventually yanked down from DiGiorno’s timeline, but social media could not un-see what they wrote. Screenshots are forever! Realizing their huge blunder, the company quickly issued a public apology after the infamous tweet had been snatched off of its page.
Their excuse? The company said it had not bothered to read what was being said in the hashtag before trying to capitalize on the trending topic. See that?! Reading is fundamental, beauties.
A million apologies. Did not read what the hashtag was about before posting.

We heard from many of you, and we know we disappointed you. We understand, and we apologize to everyone for this mistake.

Since yesterday’s flub, DiGiorno has been pretty quiet on the promotional front. That could be because their social media writer has been profusely apologizing to just about everyone that blasted them…individually. Since it’s Twitter, of course DiGiorno did not get away unscathed. Tons of critical tweets poured in for DiGiorno, but some people made light of the company’s mistake.

Hey, @DiGiornoPizza, new slogan… “It’s not degrading, it’s DiGiorno!” You’re welcome in advance. #WhyIStayed
