NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton is demanding that all 35,000 of his cops be retrained following the incident that killed Eric Garner.

Although the New York Daily News reports that an autopsy done on Eric’s body has turned up “inconclusive” results about the cause of his death, Bill told reporters at a press conference that he expects the victim’s family to press charges in a civil lawsuit.

NYPD cops aren’t even allowed to use chokeholds on suspects because they’ve been banned as a restrictive measure for 20 years!

While the department awaits the anticipated legal action from Eric’s family, Bill said, “This department clearly needs to do more training.” He’s also ordered a full-scale review of training methods for NYPD officers.

In light of the official ban on chokeholds, it’s not surprising that the NYPD’s internal report does not mention the fact that officer Daniel Pantaleo used one on Eric.

The report obtained by the Daily News also states that Eric went into cardiac arrest as he was placed on the stretcher.

Sgt. Dhanan Saminath claimed that the father of asthmatic father of six “did not appear to be in great distress” during the police confrontation. Meanwhile, Sgt. Kizzy Adonis said his “condition didn’t seem serious and that he did not appear to get worse.”

Kizzy stated later in the report that she could have sworn she “heard [Eric] state that he was having difficulty breathing.”

Director Spike Lee paid tribute to Eric on Instagram yesterday, writing, “Brother Eric Garner No Longer Breathes Courtesy Of Banned NYPD Chokehold. Rest In Power.”

For Spike, the whole incident reminded him of a scene from Do The Right Thing where Radio Raheem was killed by cops during a huge fight.

The symmetry was so strong between the scene he directed and Eric’s real-life situation that he even spliced the clips together. Spike then posted the clip to Instagram and YouTube. You can watch it below.
