PETA has a new target of interest and her name is Michelle Obama. In a new campaign specifically targeting our First Lady, the animal rights organization calls for a big change to the White House’s Easter egg roll.
According to their YouTube video titled “Michelle Obama, We Need To Talk,” which hit the web this week, the use of real eggs in the annual event is unacceptable. The one-minute spot features little girls telling the FLOTUS they’re not mad, just “disappointed.” “Be the leader we know you can be. You’re better than this!” the pint-size activists say. “If all the other first ladies jumped off a bridge, would you?”
The kids go on to encourage Mrs. Obama to use plastic eggs, which can be reused every year without wasting real ones.
In a letter sent directly to the First Lady, PETA President Ingrid Newkirk adds that the use of real eggs goes against Mrs. Obama’s healthy eating initiative. “Encouraging the consumption of cruelly sourced, unhealthy eggs is inconsistent with the goals of the “Let’s Move!” initiative,” she writes. “Eggs are laden with saturated animal fat and cholesterol, which are primary contributors to some of our nation’s top killers, including heart disease and strokes.”
