Funeral services were held on Saturday for Britney Cosby and Crystal Jackson — the lesbian couple that was found slain behind a dumpster in Port Bolivar, TX — just days after the case saw a grim arrest for the alleged murder.
Britney’s father, James Larry Cosby, has been charged with two counts of tampering with evidence in connection with the death of his daughter and her girlfriend, both 24, News One reports, while her mother told police that he was angry his daughter was gay.
“He said it to me a few times that he did not like the idea of her being gay,” Loranda McDonald told KHOU-TV of her ex-husband. “But, like I told him, there’s nothing we could do about that. That’s who she is. We can’t change her lifestyle.”
Investigators questioned the 46-year-old father after a candlelight vigil held in the victims’ honor and said their suspicions grew shortly after.
“Anytime you have a crime like this you want to talk to the family, co-workers, friends to gain any information you can and, during that interview, pretty much it became an investigation,” Galveston County Sheriff Henry Trochesset said. “When we went to the residence to talk to him, some of the things we saw there, it increased and went further. We got a search warrant for the residence and our crime scene investigators were there last night, and after the event at the park, we drove him down to talk to us at the Sheriff’s Office.”
After the two young women’s bodies were found near a dumpster outside a Fisherman’s Cove food mart, investigators found Cosby died from blunt force trauma while Jackson was shot to death. Detectives said they found Crosby’s thumbprint at the crime scene in Bolivar, but note the evidence suggests that the women may have been killed at the Houston home before their bodies were dumped. Crosby, who police say is not cooperating with the investigation, is currently being held in the Galveston County Jail on a total of $500,000.00 bonds.
The two young women who were tragically killed were remembered this weekend in two separate funerals. Crystal Jackson’s father, a pastor, spoke during his daughter’s funeral services at New Peaceful Rest Baptist Church. Family and friends of Britney Cosby gathered to remember her at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church.
All hope to have more answers on the women’s tragic deaths as police search for more answers, though Britney’s mother is convinced her ex-husband should be brought to justice for the crime. “I think they should lock him up, don’t let him out,” she said. “Give him the chair, I want him to suffer.”
