Michelle Obama Visits Miltary Families In North Carolina
Michelle Obama Visits Military Families
Michelle Obama made her first trip as First Lady outside of Washington yesterday. Mrs. Obama spent the afteroon visiting soldiers and their families at North Carolina’s sprawling Fort Bragg.
Mrs. Obama has said she wants to focus on military families during her time as first lady. She spent time hugging military members at a dining facility and talking with their spouses in a private session _ all in a support center that had some windows boarded up with plywood.
The First Lady also took time out to read “The Cat in the Hat” to a classroom of young children, ages 3 to 5.
“What are you all dressed up for?” Mrs. Obama asked a young girl with a pink bow in her hair. “You have a special guest or something?”
Mrs. Obama also gave her first network television interview since her husband took office, sitting down at Fort Bragg with ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
“It hurts. It hurts,” Mrs. Obama said of hearing about military families on food stamps. “These are people who are willing to send their loved ones off to, perhaps, give their lives – the ultimate sacrifice. But yet, they’re living back at home on food stamps. It’s not right, and it’s not where we should be as a nation.”
