2009: The Year Of Blackface
This year we saw multiple publications and television shows paint white models in brown paint for feature fashion spreads. America’s Next Top Model even took a plunge into the blackface craze by having models pose as other races. Then also Rihanna’s spread in Italian Vogue border-lined on controversial because they definitely darkened her skin and put some sambo style make up on her. Is blackface becoming the new “it” thing?
