Earth Day 2010: No Child Left Inside
Earth Day is April 22, 2010. Celebrate by supporting environmental education and outdoor play, which is important for our children’s personal and academic growth.
Earth Day 2010 Action Center states that ‘With students now spending 90% of their time indoors, “nature deficit disorder” is on the rise. A recent study found that children spend less than four minutes a day in “unstructured outdoor play. This secluded lifestyle is causing emotional, educational, and physical consequences, including obesity. Getting kids outside teaches them about the world around them and gives them an appreciation for nature while providing an opportunity for sunshine and exercise.”
Earth Day Network is a globally recognized leader in the field of environmental education. They have partnered with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and The Clinton Foundation to green all of America’s K-12 schools within a generation.
Honor the earth, go outside and play!
