Singer and songwriter Amina Buddafly is the latest star to take the clippers to her head to start anew. The mother of two uploaded a TikTok video of herself shaving her head with “#ididit” as the caption.

Later that day, she shared a sweet video of herself and her daughter Cori with matching buzz cuts. “#likemotherlikedaughter,” the post read. “Freedom and Peace = Happiness 🥰✨ @coriandbx (photos taken by Cori this past Sunday afternoon 🧡 the day we cut our hair)”

Black women have been battling European beauty standards for decades. From constantly being exposed to images that do not resemble our features and hair textures to advocating for a law (which was recently passed) that gives us the legal right to wear our hair exactly how it grows from our head, we are over it. These days, many Black women have found beauty in just being who we are. More women of color have had enough and are choosing to liberate themselves from the social constructions that try to tell us how we should feel, act, and look. In 2006, Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter India Arie birthed her popular song, “I Am Not My Hair.” And in 2022, it seems that more Black women celebrities (and non-celebrities) are living her lyrics out loud by wearing their hair exactly how they want to or getting rid of their hair altogether. In a culture where hair is king, choosing to be without it is bold. In the past, we’ve seen beautiful bald hairstyles on powerful women like Cicely Tyson and Grace Jones, but it wasn’t until recently that the bald look had a ripple effect. So, to salute the ladies who are defying the odds and rocking the hell out of their bald heads, we are recognizing them below. Check out five celebrity beauties who boldly rock a bald head hairstyle.

1. Jada Pinkett-Smith

Of course, we had to salute Jada in this post. Although alopecia contributed to her new bald hairdo, the Matrix actress is sporting the hairstyle fiercely. From adding jewel accessories to highlight her head with jazzy ear cuffs, Jada does the baldhead look like a pro.

2. Amina Buddafly

Singer Amina Buddafly recently collaborated with the clippers and took her medium length hair right off her head. Her lovely bald head glows perfectly and makes her beautiful features stand out even more.

3. MJ Rodriguez

MJ Rodriguez is a sight for sore eyes with her beautiful bald head. Her simple hairdo definitely accentuates her face and her gorgeous long neck.

4. Tiffany Haddish

She ready! Tiffany shaved her head some time ago, and now she is having all the fun with her closely cut ‘do. One week she is getting a design cut in her head (see video above) and the next week she is dying her hair platinum blonde. We are absolutely here for it!

When Yvonne’s character stepped on the scene sporting a fresh bald haircut on the finale of Insecure, we didn’t know what hit us. This look proves that Yvonne can rock any style and get away with it. As if Yvonne needed more swag, this look adds just the right amount of it to her already jazzy vibe.
