HB’s Favorite Things

2020 has proven to be the year of skincare, at least as far as the beauty industry is concerned. When the coronavirus hit and people started spending more time in loungewear than in lounges, women quickly began to opt for eye creams over eyeliner, and rightfully so. Though we’ve always known healthy skin is the basis for any good beat, now that fewer people are using makeup as a coverup, the focus has been put on achieving a complexion that’s free of blemishes, brown spots, and dark circles, and full of illumination.

That fact made putting together this year’s list of skincare favorites even more fun. Now that people are more focused on skin, most know it takes more than just slathering on any old face wash and slapping on a random moisturizer to achieve a perfect complexion. It’s important to be aware of your skin type and skin needs in order to bring out your best self. So to help you find your new go-tos, we’ve put together a list of our favorite things, from cleansers to creams, to keep your skin healthy and thriving throughout the rest of 2020 and into the new year.

1. Dermalogica Hydro Masque Exfoliant

We tend to think about regular exfoliation in the summer because we show more flesh, but it’s actually more necessary in the fall and winter months when skin is consistently dryer.

This Hydro Masque Exfoliant from Dermalogica only takes 3-5 minutes to do its thing. Bamboo Spheres and Lactic Acid are the exfoliants activated in this masque as you massage it into the skin. At the same time, Snow Mushroom and Hyaluronic Acid ensure skin remains plump and hydrated, while Jojoba Seed, Sunflower, and Safflower help strengthen skin’s natural moisture barrier to prevent dry skin from reoccurring.

2. Made To Mask 4-Piece Mask Kit

We don’t know one woman who only has one mask in her beauty cabinet. Our skin needs are constantly changing, sometimes on a weekly basis, depending on changes in our hormones, and that’s why we need more than one treatment mask on hand.

Peter Thomas Roth’s Mask Kit makes it easy to reach for what you need when you need it. The set includes the brand’s Pumpkin Enzyme Mask for exfoliation; the Irish Moor Mud Mask to purify, decongest and hydrate; the Cucumber Gel Mask to soothe, hydrate and de-tox; and the 24K Gold Mask to help lift and firm skin while adding just a touch of glow.

3. Mario Badescu Glass Bottle Drying Lotion

If you haven’t been touched by mascne this year, consider yourself blessed. If, on the other hand, you’ve been battling consistent breakouts since Covid -19 and the mask ordinance struck, consider this your blessing in a bottle. Mario Badescu’s Drying Lotion is formulated with Salicylic Acid, Sulfur, and Calamine to dry out surface-level blemishes overnight without drying out the rest of your skin. Simply dip a cotton swab into the pink sediment at the bottom of the bottle (don’t shake) and dab on your bumps. In the morning, rinse off when you wash your face and prepare to be wowed.

4. Philosophy Purity Made Simple One-Step Facial Cleanser

Cleansers make all the difference when it comes to skincare and Philosophy’s Purity Made Simple One-Step Facial Cleanser is most likely what your skin has been missing.

Meadowfoam seed oil helps melts away dirt, oil, and makeup effectively, eliminating the need for a two-step cleansing ( in a clinical trial 87% of users reported their skin immediately looked and felt like a clean canvas). It also tones and lightly hydrates to keep skin balanced as it deeply cleans pores. If you prefer a simple morning and nighttime skincare regimen as opposed to life as a product junkie, this cleanser is definitely for you.

5. Tula Rose Glow & Get It Cooling & Brightening Eye Balm

This bestselling eye balm from Tula Rose pretty much does it all. It’s packed with probiotics to lock in moisture and soothe inflammation; Rosehip Oil, a plant-based retinol alternative rich in vitamin C that protects against free radicals; Rosewater to hydrate, soften, and tone; and Caffeine to help reduce the dark on those dark circles. Aloe, apple, watermelon, and blueberry, which are all rich in antioxidants, also add to the hydration and protection factor.

It’s recommended that the balm be applied around the entire eye after you moisturize, but you can also reapply on top of makeup throughout the day to wake tired eyes up.
